From Bodensee we went to Salem, a bit further north and with a pretty, if somewhat smaller lake, nearby called Schloss See. The campsite was very rural – cows next door, so sometimes not very fragrant, but a nice cafe which served – you’ve guessed it – more schnitzels!
There were more of their wonderful cycle paths getting us into the town of Salem to see the Schloss, which was in fact an old abbey though hard to believe now, and of course the lake. The Schloss is really a collection of buildings, one of which is a boarding school, in some lovely grounds. The buildings are beautiful, but you dont get to see the sumptious interiors which you know are there courtesy of some photos with the history, so we found it somewhat disappointing considering the price of around 16 euros each. But the sun shone, we got some good photos and B bought me a glass hummingbird which we watched the man make in his studio there – so, a lovely memory nevertheless.

We didnt swim from this platform, there was a lovely grass slope and beach area around the other side of the lake where you could sunbathe, swim and get more schnitzels at the cafe (we restrained ourselves here!).
