Patchwork and Prawns – more poetry

After 10 days the healthy eating plan / low carb ridiculous amount of veg diet was officially over.  PEW lost 3lbs, BOOB just over 1, which was disappointing on 2 counts – the obvious one, plus the fact that her husband had spent the entire period ridiculing the whole thing and saying she couldn’t possibly lose anything given the volume which had to be consumed.  Several arguments about calories versus quantity ensued while he ate mash or roast potatoes or other banned items and she crunched through another salad.  Not a good recipe for marital bliss, especially when there was close enough justification for the “I told you so” at the end !

Nevertheless, the friends agreed to stick to the overall principles of the plan moving forward and PEW did suggest gently that maybe BOOB had had just a few too many glasses of antioxidant along the way, which was, just perhaps, not helpful and not really portions of fruit.

The texting frequency dropped with the level of real jaw activity as both reduced the quantity of vegetables to something a little kinder to the digestion, if not necessarily the waistline.

A couple of days later BOOB got vertigo and nausea which she found a distressing and exhausting way to lose nearly 6 more pounds.  Effective, but not recommended and expensive as it involved 3 visit to French doctors, one on a Sunday, totaling just over 100 euros plus various prescriptions.  Mind you, she had probably spent that much already on vegetables and obscure condiments, she mused.

Out of the blue, PEW had another poetry moment:

I would be

Over there

Except for

La mer…

Sadness steals into my heart –

It keeps us apart –

La mer…

I would that stretch of water

Were shorter

La mer….

Where the mussels become moules

And bowls become boules

Across

La mer…

Idle days in the sun

Drinking wine, having fun

Laughing with you,

Hon

Where?

Across

La mer…

Through dark and gloomy days

I concoct so many ways

To cross

La mer….

But until I can again

I can still dance in the rain

Because you’re still there

Despite

La Mer……

BOOB cried.

A few days later, she replied:

My morning walks among the vines

Remind me still of other times

Finding orchids, falling in ditches

Pulling you out had me in stitches

Photos of butterflies, beetles and flowers

Feeling the heat and needing cool showers

Seeing weeds that grow wild

Rediscovering the child

Inside

Alive

Just needing release

And finding some peace

So now the fields are brown and dry

I walk alone and sometimes sigh

Seasons are changing, the orchids now absent

Only the leaves of the vines staying vibrant

Grape harvest has started, vidange it’s called here

New wine being made to give us all cheer

One day

Quite soon

We’ll be drinking a glass

And together we’ll laugh ……

PEW’s turn to shed a few!

And here is some patchwork!
