Wednesday 26th – Friday 28th June, sunny, warm, windy…

We are back in the Camargue and the sunshine – true, its windy and it is the Mistral – again – but its better than round Pezenas and you can ride the bike without thinking you are going to end up in the hedge or the side of another vehicle!

It took us most of Wednesday to get here courtesy of the errant Satnav.  I programmed it to avoid motorways and that turned out to be a bad move as it avoiding all dual carriageways and anything sensible and I ended up driving Horatio through so many village and town centres it made 50 miles seem more like a hundred.  B, following the white wall of Horatio’s rear, concurred.  Every time we stopped at traffic lights he roasted and we stopped at loads.

This time we are in La Grande Motte at the campsite we used last year.  We wanted to check out the plots here in advance of returning in September with B’s eldest son and family – only to be told you cannot book them in advance.  Doh!

Anyway, we like the site, even if it is rather overpriced, and the beach is still lovely, though we have struggled to get anywhere near it due to work issues.

So we have elected to stay one extra day – tomorrow – before hitting the road to Calais and taking 3 days to do that rather than 4.  So the French autoroute companies can look forward to some extra income as the only way to achieve 650 miles in 3 days without being totally exhausted is on the toll roads.

We love it here and don’t want to leave.  Today we had to take The Beast back to the factory ready to be collected next week.  It was a sad moment – it has been great to be able to ride that much – B reckons he has put around 1000 miles onto it on this trip.  Gonna have to do it again!!!
