EXHAUST TIN RABBIT

You’ve heard of Beer Can Chicken – we love this and the fact that it looks so crazy – but on the way back from Béarn we discovered Exhaust Tin Rabbit….

INGREDIENTS

• 1 Blown Exhaust
• Coffee
• 1 tin of Lapin à la Moutarde
• Some wire
• Tin opener
• Wire cutters and pliers
• Ingenuity
• Perseverance
• Patience

METHOD

1. After blowing exhaust just as you pull onto the French autoroute, pull back off into the first picnic area you get to.
2. Park and locate break point – hopefully this is reasonably accessible.
3. Make coffee and drink it while discussing options (Ingenuity).
4. Come up with plan involving tinned food and fence wire.
5. Empty tin of rabbit in mustard sauce into another container, put aside for later.
6. Cut rims off top and bottom of tin while your partner surreptitiously snips some lengths of wire off a nearby fence (which appears to have already been used for this or a similar purpose).
7. Recommended: find something to put on ground to lie on.
8. Fold tin to reduce diameter so it fits around broken pipe.
9. Secure with fence wire.  (These 2 stages require the perseverance).
10.  Have another coffee.
11.  Drive back onto the autoroute with care.  If noise of blown exhaust does not return you can continue to your destination by the simplest route, avoiding speed bumps and bad road surfaces whenever possible. (Patience)
12.  Having arrived at your destination place contents of tin on stove and warm through.
13.  Optional: open small tin of peas and add contents, reserving tin in case of further structural failures.
14.  Enjoy with copious quantities of red wine (not in stew) and …. RELAX!!!

Footnote:  we bought this tin of rabbit stew sometime back on the recommendation of a friend as part of our motorhome emergency food supply – not quite the emergency we had planned for! It was very tasty indeed and we will be buying it again, hopefully just as a food option.
