19/20 October, foggy, sunny, wet, 98 miles
We went to the motorhome/caravan show on Saturday in Stockach and in Ludwigshafen. Each location was a repeat of the other – hundreds of motorhomes, a sprinkling of caravans and 1 shop of bits and bobs. Basically it was 2 dealers co-ordinating a week of promotions.
So as we were not in the market for a replacement for Horatio, we toured the bits and bobs shops and came out with – wait for it – one set of door clips and a bit of green stuff to go on the bottom step!
B was in particular dead chuffed with the green stuff – an astroturf mat basically – and it was installed within 5 minutes of getting back to the site. Beer time.
Before returning we did find a lovely location in Ludwigshafen, right on the lake (Constance/Bodensee). The sun came out and we had the best lasagne ever sitting outside, admiring the view and the sailing boats on the lake and feeling very warm indeed. Fabulous.
Sunday dawned, cloudy and raining and we set off for a site not too far from Basel, but still in Germany. Despite the rain it was a truly scenic drive through the Black Forest – which is actually quite mountainous. The autumn colours were truly beautiful and there was an exciting gorge to negotiate too.
Lunch was in a garden centre! Yes, they do that in Germany too, but so much better of course. Another schnitzel – we really have decimated the German pig population, it seems to be the staple meat here…
Beer time again now – we have definitely gone native!
