Wednesday 27th June, 104 miles, absolutely boiling then more thunder & lightning

Time to leave the Lot to head for Toulouse – the centre of the French aviation industry and hence the location of quite a few of my clients.  Although the city is in itself a destination – the “Rose City” it seemed from preliminary research before leaving that campsites are banned from a 10 mile radius of the city – at least to the north and west any way.

No problem, just follow the rivers – theres always campsites near them.  Until now.  OK so lets try a place where its signposted to have a chateau and a labyrinth.  Apparently that was all it had.  By now we were also searching for somewhere to grab some lunch with a car park big enough for Horatio and the temperature in his cab was approaching 40 degrees – not exactly ideal for cool calm collected thinking…..

After a pizza ordered 2 minutes before the place closed immedicately preceded by a hasty reverse out of the adjacent car park (too wide to use the exit), we regrouped and decided to go for Plan B – the only campsites we could find in our various books which were about 20 miles away, but at least on the airport side of the city.

20 very winding and sweaty miles later we found the first – in a forest on a hill – call it peaceful and close to nature – or just call it bloody remote.  My final idea was to try one which looked an even worse drive to the airport, but appeared to be by a small lake.

Having set off from Cahors at 1030, at 5pm we rolled into the lakeside site with a huge sigh of relief.   10 days?  No problem.  Break out the champagne.  Oops, forgot to put it in the fridge!!
