On our third full day in Rosebud our friends took us to the beach as the weather had got a lot hotter.  They keep telling us that this area is “four seasons in one day”! Each day another temperature so its hard to know what to expect.  Anyway, we went to a “back beach” at Point Leo.  The back beaches are those directly on the ocean, as opposed to those on the bay.  As you might expect the water on the back beaches is colder as it doesn’t have the advantage of being warmed across the shallow sands of the bay, so it was a bit like swimming in England but we were in the Tasman Sea – keep going south and next comes the Antarctic Ocean!

Two exceptions to the similarity with British waters – here the waters are turquoise blue and you have to beware of sharks.  None reported that day and we didn’t go out of our depth, but it’s a sobering thought.

After an hour or so on the beach we went to Flinders in search of ice cream and found an amazing chocolate shop which also did fabulous ice cream.  As we are coming to realise here, the portions were HUGE – sorry no photos as had to eat them up quick before they melted – one scoop was about the size of 4 in the UK!

After that we went for a walk at Cape Schanck to burn off some of the calories!  No sandy beach here, it’s a rocky promontory and very pretty as you can see in the photos.
